Tourism and Events Management FdA

Entry requirements

We look at individual applications and make an offer based on your academic achievements and personal statement. Offers may be subject and grade specific.

For 2012 entry: 120 points from 2 A Levels including a Grade C in a relevant subject or an equivalent Level 3 qualification e.g. BTEC National Diploma or an Access to Higher Education Diploma.

For 2013 entry: to be confirmed

GCSEs

This course requires a minimum of 4 GCSEs grades A* to C, including Maths and English or appropriate Key Skills Level 2 or equivalent.

Numeracy and literacy

In order for you to contribute fully to your course andenjoy your learning experience with us, you’ll need to have the right skills tostudy with us. For that reason, we need to be sure that you can expressyourself in written English, have basic numeracy skills, and have anunderstanding of the subject area. We usually use Level 2 of the NationalQualifications Framework as a demonstration of these skills. Level 2 includesGCSEs and Key Skills Level 2. If you are a mature candidate who does not haveformal qualifications to this level, we may still be able to consider yourapplication – please contact the askBU enquiry service to find out more.

Advanced/Progression Diplomas

The Advanced Diploma is broadly equivalent to three anda half A levels and the Progression Diploma to two and a half A levels. Thediplomas are available in just a few subject areas and only some of these aresuitable to gain entry onto this course.

This course accepts the following Progression Diplomas in conjunction with other qualifications:

  • Creative and Media
  • Information Technology
  • Society, Health and Development
  • Business, Administration and Finance
  • Environment and Land Based Studies

This course accepts the following Advanced Diplomas:

  • Creative and Media
  • Information Technology
  • Society, Health and Development
  • Hospitality
  • Business, Administration and Finance
  • Environment and Land Based Studies

This course does not accept the following Progression or Advanced Diplomas:

  • Construction and the Built Environment
  • Engineering
  • Hair and Beauty
  • Manufacturing and Product Design

In all cases, you will need to achieve the required tariff points for this course. If you are taking an Advanced Diploma then typically you will take an A Level as part of their ASL. If you are taking a Progression Diploma, you may be required to take additional qualifications to meet the tariff points.

BTEC Nationals

This course requires 120 points from a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma

Cambridge Pre-UDiploma

We welcome applicants studying the Cambridge Pre-U Diplomaor a combination of Pre-U subjects and A-levels.

Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art, Design & Media

A Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art, Design and Media is not accepted for this course.

European Baccalaureate

We welcome applicants completing the European Baccalaureate.

International Baccalaureate (Diploma)

The full International Baccalaureate (Diploma) is welcomed. Students much achieve 24 points or more,including 5 points from a relevant specialist subject at the Higher level. We do not accept the equivalent UCAS tariff points for theIB.

Irish Leaving Certificate

Applicants are normally required to achieve seven passes,including four at the higher level with grade C or above.

Key Skills (Level 3)

We welcome your application if you are studying at Key Skills Level 3.

Scottish Qualifications

Scottish Advanced Highers, Scottish Highers and other Scottish qualifications are all welcomed providing that your results meet the overall course tariff.

Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma

Applicants will be expected to achieve the core in addition to two A levels and to satisfy the overall course entry criteria

Excluded subjects

This course does not accept A Level General Studies
