Course overview

Public Services discussion

You can still apply to BU (including through UCAS Extra). Please apply through UCAS as soon as possible; your application can only be assessed once we have received it from UCAS.

The FdA Public Services is offered at Bournemouth and Poole College (full-time) and Weymouth College (full and part-time).

It is designed for those either working in or wanting to join a range of public service providers, for example local authority workers, the police and probation service, the fire service and the military. There a number of 'core' units which are being provided by all colleges. Option units offered by the individual colleges then focus on more specialised areas.

Students will study units covering the social context of public service delivery, and deal with ethics and organisational behaviour and resource management. Work based learning is strongly emphasised and a range of skills such as team working, leadership and research capability are developed. Depending on the specialist area other units cover criminal justice, human rights, political context and diversity. Health and fitness awareness and developing leadership skills through outdoor activities may also be a feature.

The course offers a full time route over two years or a part time route over three years. Successful students may progress onto a BSc (Hons) Public Services degree offered by the University of Plymouth.
