Operating Department Practice Diploma of Higher Education

Course overview

You can still apply to BU (including through UCAS Extra). Please apply through UCAS as soon as possible; your application can only be assessed once we have received it from UCAS.

This course will enable you to gain professional registration as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) and a Diploma in Higher Education.

ODP’s are a vital part in the multi-disciplinary operating theatre team as they are primarily concerned with the maintenance and restoration of a patient. This involves careful assessment, planning and the delivery of personalised care.

Our course will develop your knowledge and skills to high practical competencies, which are underpinned with a sound theoretical grasp of professional practice. For half of your time on the course you will be based in practice placements where you will learn to adapt and integrate the theory that you will learn at University.

Successful completion of this course will confer eligibility to apply to register with the Health Professions Council (HPC).

Once registered with the HPC you will be eligible to work as registered ODP's in the UK or other consenting countries around the world.
