Occupational Therapy BSc (Hons)

Course overview

Closed for applications for 2012 entry.

Occupational Therapists deliver a high standard of care that is based on sound theory and research, and practice within a variety of settings that include health and social care.

You will study anatomy, physiology, sociology and psychology which will form the ground work on which the study of the occupational therapy process is based. Our course design is primarily problem based learning, which involves groups of students working on real life scenarios in order to gain knowledge and understanding of occupational roles and how health and wellbeing can effect their functioning.

You will spend half your time on the course studying theory and research, and half on practice placements. Placements are designed to enable your competence to develop in terms of hands-on occupational therapy skills.

Your first year will involve an introductory fieldwork experience, followed by fieldwork of increasing length. This will ensure you gain the minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised practice.

Throughout the practice experience you will be supported by a practice placement educator.

Successful completion of this course will confer eligibility to apply to register with the Health Professions Council (HPC).
