Degree Centre Weymouth

Degree Centre Weymouth is Weymouth College’s HE centre which has recently been doubled in size to create a quiet working area for students away from FE areas, with additional computers having been installed solely for HE student use. The necessary software for the specialist courses has been included in the HE centre to allow students to develop their skills in a more conducive environment. These facilities are open to students until 9.30pm allowing them to work flexibly and access academic materials including eJournals.

The college has also invested in creating more social facilities for students. This has involved the installation of a new bar that will be run by students for the HE students’ benefit providing income fro student social activities and societies. Recently new furniture, tables, seating and cinema equipment have been installed to allow events in the evenings. Te HE Centre also has its own kitchen so students can easily prepare snacks and refreshments. The Director of Higher Education and Senior HE Administrator are on hand during the day to provide information and advice.

The college is based on an impressive redevelopment single campus just a stone’s throw from the beach. We have purpose-designed facilities for construction, engineering, catering, and art & design. Other curriculum areas such as media and performing arts have re-modelled and refurbished accommodation and we have a new dedicated facility in Poundbury for construction and stonework, for which the College is renowned.

Our modernised sports centre provides a wide range of sporting activities for our students and the extended library and Learning Gateway offers an excellent learning resource for students and the whole community. Weymouth is pleased to be hosting the sailing events for the 2012 Olympic Games and the opportunities for students to get involved in related activities is very exciting.
