Exercise Science (Health & Rehabilitation) BSc (Hons)

Course overview

You can still apply to BU (including through UCAS Extra). Please apply through UCAS as soon as possible; your application can only be assessed once we have received it from UCAS.

This exciting and practical course has two aims. The first is to develop exercise science practitioners who can design, instruct and manage safe and competent evidence-based exercise and rehabilitation programmes for the healthy, ill, disabled and sporting sub-populations. The second is to provide a strong scientific background in exercise science for those wishing to continue to postgraduate level.

The course is intended to provide you with a firm foundation for safe and competent practice in the area of exercise programme design and implementation. It will also open up a wide range of opportunities for you to pursue a career in health care and/or further studies in health-related disciplines.

We aim to:

  • Meet your needs for a professionally relevant course in health care that does not restrict your career opportunities
  • Meet your need for academic rigour and intellectual challenge at Honours level
  • Develop your critical understanding of anatomical, physiological and behavioural aspects of health and illness and to integrate appropriate exercise into health promotion
  • Facilitate your relevant practical experience, through intensive skills development, placement and project work
  • Provide a flexible framework for you to respond to advances in knowledge and changing patterns of health care provision
  • Instil an understanding of the need for lifelong learning.

This course has been endorsed by the The British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) based on the curriculum, learning facilities and student learning experience, making it a great time to study and become involved with this growing profession. Our course will provide you with all the skills you need to stand out against other graduates in this field.
