Course overview

You can still apply to BU (including through UCAS Extra). Please apply through UCAS as soon as possible; your application can only be assessed once we have received it from UCAS.

Please note that this course is only recruiting to the part-time route for September 2012 entry.

This course brings together the interfacing technologies that will combine both computing and electronics. It will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to design both hardware and software applications in electronics.

The course focuses on the design of microelectronic and computer-based intelligent systems and combines computing, software engineering and electronics hardware design. Central is the need to interface electronic circuits and systems to computers and other microprocessor based equipment. This requires a broad-based design capability encompassing professional design methodologies, CAD and technical skills.

To ensure a full and rounded knowledge, this course has extensive "hands-on" activities and project work. Industry specific skills are developed including: microelectronic design, interfacing techniques, C++, project management, circuit simulation and programmable devices. This will involve using software such as Borland C++ Builder 6, Dreamweaver and Proteus.

The course has a high practical content to establish an understanding of hardware and software interfacing techniques. This practical method of assessment builds industry relevant knowledge.
