Early Years FdA (Part-time)

Course overview

This course is delivered at Bournemouth and Poole College, Weymouth College and University Centre Yeovil.

The FdA in Early Years is designed to provide a means by which practitioners in early years care and education can obtain a recognised qualification in this area. To undertake this foundation degree, you should be in either part-time or full-time employment.

The course will meet the criteria for an Early Years Sector-Endorsed Foundation degree.

As such it aims to:

  • Provide the appropriate knowledge and understanding required for the care and education of children across early years care and education and school/nursery settings.
  • Deliver the professional and practical skills and competencies that are required to work in one of the following contexts: As a Senior Practitioner in Early Years Care and Education - As a Senior Practitioner in Playwork settings across the Early Years age range - As a support to teachers and pupils/children in Early Years school/nursery settings.
  • We ensure that you can demonstrate within your practice that you have adopted appropriate value and belief systems for Early Years or Play or school-based settings. These values must include those relating to anti-discriminatory practice, equality of opportunity and ensuring inclusive practice
  • Develop your self-awareness and reflection, including the ability to evaluate your effect on other people and in the environment in which you work.

For 2012 entry: 80 points, including at least 1 A Level or an equivalent Level 3 qualification e.g. NVQ3, CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education or BTEC Diploma in Early Years or an Access to Higher Education Diploma. Plus full or part-time employment in the sector.
