Digital Media Design BA (Hons)

Overview

Placements are a key feature and an integral part of this programme because they allow students to practise the skills they have learnt in a professional context. The programme has a wide range of established, high profile contacts which offer excellent placement opportunities.

Recent placement companies include BBC Interactive TV, The Sanctuary Group, Wheelhouse Creative Ltd., Zenith Entertainment, Sky Television, EMAP performance, and Scala Productions.

Will I have to find my own placement?

Students are expected to be proactive at every stage of researching and generating appropriate offers. We have a Placements Office who will assist and support you in developing contacts, provide listings of previous placement companies & post notices of incoming opportunities. There will be a placement workshop when final year students will tell you of their experiences, and there will be opportunities for CV and interview technique workshops. So don't worry you won’t be on your own.

Why do some courses have longer placements than others?

Because different areas of industry prefer different types of placement. Public relations and marketing businesses, for example, prefer a longer period up to a year. Areas such as advertising, media production and journalism have shorter placements but also work on projects with industry all the way through the course, as this suits their type of work better.
