This is a new and exciting course

Graduates from this course will have a full understanding of all the important elements of product design, whilst being able to gather, analyse and manage the related business information to develop new or existing ideas and products into commercial success. You will be able to act as entrepreneurs, working as an employee or self-employed. The course content will include both the technical and human aspects of product design and development, as well as the related marketing, business and management aspects.

Graduates will be equipped with:

  • a set of modern professional design and communication skills
  • a full understanding of the humanistic design issues (such as ergonomics & semiotics)
  • an understanding of the existing and coming materials and technologies
  • a full knowledge and understanding of past, present and future design trends
  • a full knowledge and understanding of the existing and coming market constraints and opportunities, including sustainable design issues
  • a working knowledge and understanding of Intellectual Property (IP) and related legal issues and procedures
  • a full knowledge and understanding of product pricing and costing
  • a working knowledge and understanding of business finance related to product design, development, marketing and launching
