Computing and Internet Technology FdSc (Full-time, Part-time)

Course overview

You can still apply to BU (including through UCAS Extra). Please apply through UCAS as soon as possible; your application can only be assessed once we have received it from UCAS.

This course is designed for those interested in pursuing a career in the diverse and rapidly changing area of the internet and related fields. It is delivered at University Centre Yeovil.

The aims of the course are to:

  • develop a methodical approach to the analysis, construction and evaluation of computer-based systems;
  • develop an appreciation of the need for, and the skills necessary to implement, a structured approach to programme design and its associated documentation;
  • enable students to make an effective contribution to the organisation in which they are employed by providing a framework for sound, technical and professional practices;
  • provide students with an opportunity to develop both independent and co-operative work;
  • develop the ability to critically examine new ideas and technological developments and enable students to adopt a constructive, reasoned and receptive approach to innovation;
  • enable students to understand through experience the different human aspects of working within a project team by experiencing the difficulties and satisfaction of implementing a group project.

Students who successfully complete the Foundation degree have the opportunity to progress onto the BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology degree. This will be either into the third year where students will undertake an industrial placement and bridging programme or in exceptional circumstances directly into the fourth year of this programme.
