Course overview

You can still apply to BU (including through UCAS Extra). Please apply through UCAS as soon as possible; your application can only be assessed once we have received it from UCAS.

Delivered at Bournemouth & Poole College, University Centre Yeovil or Guernsey Training Agency.

This Foundation course in Business and Management is an ideal choice if you are looking for a course that offers a wide range of business subjects covering areas such as Marketing, Human Resource Management, Finance and Management. It has been specially designed to provide the perfect basis for entry to work, or progression to an Honours degree course.

Course delivery

The course is split into two levels, Level C and Level I.

Level C provides an all important underpinning in business subjects with an emphasis on practical 'work focused' learning that enables you to relate your studies to the world of work.

The first term includes a number of activities including the induction week and team building workshops that support your personal development and study skills.

As part of this level you also have the chance to complete the European Computer Driving Licence syllabus.

By completing this level, you will have developed a detailed knowledge of a wide range of business activities, including marketing principles and approaches; organisational behaviour and analysis; human resource management practices; legal frameworks for businesses; financial decision-making and managing resources.

The next level, Level I, builds on what you have already learnt and introduces you to self-directed research work. You will produce workable business plans intended for small businesses.

Once you have successfully completed the course, you may choose to enter the world of work, or, if you meet the achievement criteria, the opportunity to 'top-up' the course to a full honours degree with the one year, full-time BA (Hons) Business and Management top-up course.

Crucial to a successful career, the course has been designed to ensure that you develop a wide range of key skills including presentation skills, organisational skills, team work, information technology and research.
