Applied Geography BSc (Hons)

Overview

At BU, we recognise that placements are extremely valuable and can give you a head start when it comes to your future career, therefore we will be offering every new student the opportunity to undertake an industrial placement from 2012.

You will carry out a 5-week placement, at the end of the first and second year which enables you to put the scientific and business theory you have learnt into practice.

The School has important links to outside agencies and organisations to best support you along your professional development. We have an in-school Placement Officer who will assist you in finding a placement as well as a database of nearly 900 organisations who have acted as hosts for our students in previous years.

Placements may be paid, although some employers may offer expenses only. A number of students have secured placements through the STEP project, which guarantees payment for an eight-week placement. Placement organisations have included the Environment Agency, Southern Water, Dorset County Council, The National Trust, Forestry Commission, Dyfed Wildlife Trust, Fawley Research Laboratories and Scottish National Heritage.
