Course overview

You can still apply to BU (including through UCAS Extra). Please apply through UCAS as soon as possible; your application can only be assessed once we have received it from UCAS.

This course is delivered at Weymouth College.

Throughout Europe there is a growing need for stonemasons and conservationists equipped with the skills and knowledge essential for maintaining the integrity and appearance of our historic buildings.

This Foundation degree develops such skills and in addition will give you an understanding of the legislative framework, philosophy and practical skills essential for heritage conservation. It will enable you to participate productively at a skilled and technical level by working with live projects and relevant organisations to develop the necessary practical foundation for effective contribution to the heritage conservation and masonry profession.

Study will include lectures, workshop practice, site-specific projects, fieldwork visits and working within a stonemasonry/conservation organisation.

This varied type of study will provide you with the professional and specialist skills to contribute effectively in this sector. Weymouth College is close to Portland, whose famous limestone has been utilised in building for several centuries.
