Adult Nursing Advanced Diploma

Course overview

Closed for applications for September 2012 and February 2013 entries.

The last intake for this course will be February 2013. This course is delivered at BU and University Centre Yeovil. UCY has a September intake only.

Within adult nursing the focus is always on the individual and not simply his / her illness or condition and its cure. Nursing involves working with a diverse range of people and addressing the needs and anxieties a condition may generate, including the pressures on family and friends. It also involves caring for people who have acute and long term illnesses from the elderly through to those in the younger age groups.

Adult nurses utilise knowledge not only from the science of nursing but also from the art of nursing which incorporates psychological, social, emotional, cultural and spiritual beliefs and factors related to age and gender. Adult nurses work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a variety of settings liaising with other health professionals, emergency and social services to ensure a continuity of support for people who need it and, as well as caring for people when they are ill, it also involves helping to prevent people becoming ill in the first place. Consequently the challenges of adult nursing are many and varied offering individuals the opportunity to make a real difference in reducing suffering and promoting the health of people in your care.

Our course reflects a holistic and individualised approach to working with and caring for the patient/client and their family in a variety of settings.

On successful completion of the course you will also achieve professional registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC).
