Fees

Standard fee

The standard field school cost is £250 per week. This includes transport.

'Early Bird' discount

If you are paying the standard fee (some exceptions apply - please see below) and book one month before the start date you will save 10% on the weekly rate, ie. each week will cost £225.This includes transport.

Current BU Students and BU Alumni

You will be entitled to a reduced weekly rate of £100. (This does not include transport). Please state clearly on your application form your student ID number/or supply details of the course you previously studied with us.

Dorset Residents - Subsidised Places

We also have a small number of places available at a subsidised rate of £100 per week. (This does not include transport).

Normally the subsidised rate would apply to those on restricted incomes such as individuals who receive a state pension, are unemployed or are under 18. If you are considering applying for one of these places please write a supporting letter (to be sent with your application form) outlining what you feel you may gain from joining the field school.

Your place will be confirmed 28 days before the advertised dig start date, and at this point you will be required to pay your fees in full.


  • Please note: We would recommend you attend for a minimum of two weeks to be involved in all activities
  • Places are limited, so please contact us as soon as possible to reserve your place
  • The field school fee does not include accommodation
  • Field School fees will need to be paid in full at least 28 days before the start of the dig (Dig starts 10th June 2012).

Entry requirements:
No formal qualifications are required to attend the Field School; which has been designed for students and participants (aged 16 years or over) who wish to gain experience in archaeological field practice.
