Course overview

This course is designed so you will develop an applied understanding of the principles of the design and application of surveys of freshwater fishes. During the course you will develop your knowledge of survey techniques relevant to freshwater fisheries, particularly electric fishing, and its development and use in fisheries and fish population monitoring and research.

The material covered will be highly appropriate for researchers that require knowledge on the principles of fish survey design and practitioners who require this expertise in order to measure the ecological status of fish communities within the Water Framework Directive.

Take Three Courses and gain a Postgraduate Certificate …

In addition to the short course itself you have the option of undertaking further study and completing an academic assessment (an additional fee applies); on successful completion of this assessment you will gain 20 academic credits at postgraduate level (Level M). If you take an additional 2 courses (with the academic assessments) from our short course portfolio you will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Conservation Ecology.

If you choose to take the academic assessment option for this course - it will take roughly four months to complete (from your enrolment through to the submission deadline for your assessment).
