This innovative part-time doctoral programme is delivered by the UK’s only Centre for Excellence in Media Practice (CEMP) at Bournemouth University. The Doctor of Education (Creative & Media) and has been designed for working teachers of media and creative subjects in schools, colleges and in Higher Education. The programme will also benefit those teachers not necessarily involved in the delivery of creative or media teaching, but who are interested in how media, particularly media technologies, can be used in teaching and learning.

The programme is delivered online, with support from a series of bespoke residentials held at the Media School, Bournemouth University twice a year (normally May and October).

Applications are sought from:

  • Team Leaders/Head of Department in Schools and Colleges who oversee the teaching and learning of media related subjects
  • Individuals teachers of media and related creative subjects who wish to pursue a period of doctoral study for their own professional development
  • Individual teachers with an interested in the use of media within their own disciplinary context
  • Those in Higher Education who have more of a pedagogic interest and approach to the teaching of media, rather than a more conventional academic one.

Applicants would normally have a Masters degree and be in employment either full or part-time.

Entry requirements:
A UK honours degree (Level H), with at least a 2:1, and a Masters degree (Level M) in a media/creative related subject. Plus three years continuous experience in an educational context - preferably as a teacher or team leader/manager.
