Tourism Management and Planning MSc (Full-time, Part-time)

Course overview

BU has been voted Number 1 for Tourism in the 2008 & 2009 Guardian University League Tables.

Tourism development needs to be planned and managed to ensure that it is economically viable. Equally, the needs of the visitor have to be recognised and understood, and the environmental constraints have to be assessed along with the needs of the host population. Achieving a sustainable balance of these demands requires careful planning.

This course focuses on public and private sector planning by critically reviewing approaches to, and management of, tourism development. It will provide you with a critical awareness of the value and benefits of planning for tourism, as well as a knowledge of the different approaches and the rationale behind them. The course incorporates a rigorous introduction to the economic, environmental and social impacts of tourism.

Develop your skills and enhance your career

You will develop skills to successfully evaluate and manage tourism and its infrastructure. You’ll also acquire the ability to develop and manage tourism destinations so they achieve long-term success and make a positive contribution to the destination and its environment.

You’ll be taught by internationally recognised research-active staff including, Professor John Fletcher, Professor Adam Blake, Dr John Edwards, Dr Vijay Reddy and Dr Feifei Xu, ensuring that your learning is informed by both industry and academia.
