Academic support

The School of Tourism Masters Framework is unique in that it offers academic support that is especially designed for the individual courses.

This academic support takes the form of weekly classes on topics such as essay-writing, report-writing, analysis of the vocabulary in assignment titles and secondary research skills. These classes run for the first term of the course, when students are in particular need of direction; they are supplemented by email support and face-to-face individual contact.

Towards the end of the taught part of the course, a series of dissertation classes is offered to students, to prepare them for the research stage of the course.

The topics covered include:

  • the structure of the dissertation
  • data collection methods
  • data analysis techniques
  • presentation of data

These classes are complemented by email and tutorial contact with the School’s own lecturer in study skills who has extensive experience in supporting students from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. In 2007, the School of Tourism won the category for "Contribution to International Education 2007" (Daily Echo Bournemouth Tourism Awards).
