Ayotomiwa Taiwo Ajala was awarded the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship.

“Having graduated with a BSc Degree from an outstanding University, it was expected that I would seek to further my studies in a University with a good reputation. As a person who is drawn to the best, I decided to study at BU because it was ranked among the top schools in respect to my course, it has a good reputation internationally, it was also rated the Number One New University and BU is located in a Tourism friendly environment. I also had to choose a school that will enhance my career prospects with today's global employers.

The school’s representative had a pleasant charisma, she was friendly and very optimistic about BU and she gave me useful advice. I didn’t receive such treatment from representatives of the other schools. The interview process was more like a discussion with a friend and it was over before I knew it.

My stay in BU and in Bournemouth has been fun and exciting. The staff and students have been welcoming and friendly. We are being taught by highly qualified lecturers, PhD holders and academic authors who are ready and willing to assist any time. The facilities and structures in BU are modern. As an international student, I was assisted in a number of ways which made settling down easy.

I am involved in Musical activities in school which I always look forward to every week. Bournemouth is a peaceful place. And did I mention the beach? It is so beautiful! I also work with the British Heart Foundation which I enjoy because the people are so nice and friendly so I get eager to meet new people on a regular basis. I plan to work within the Tourism, Travel and Hospitality industry after my study at BU, preferably in the Tour industry.”

Nitin Mehta discusses why he chose to study his masters with BU.

“I chose BU because of its first-rate reputation in Tourism courses. The course modules are industry focused, giving students a strong academic base to pursue their career. The option of doing a placement unit where you can gain valuable work experience attracted me to studying my masters with BU. During my placement with Marriott hotels I came across so many instances where I applied my knowledge which I had gained through my course at BU.”

Before joining Bournemouth University, Tsatsu MacCarthy had spent nine years as a Tourism and Hospitality Management teacher in Cape Coast, Ghana.

“The growing tourist demand in Ghana, coupled with the need for highly competent professionals in the industry, fuelled my desire to further my studies. As a teacher it’s essential for me to keep abreast of the rapid changes in the nature of the tourism and hospitality sector, and this strongly influenced my decision to take up an MSc Tourism and Hospitality course. BU stood out from other choices as it is a world-leading university in tourism and hospitality courses. Also, BU’s close links with industry meant it was the perfect choice.

The teaching at BU is excellent and insightful; and it has tremendously enhanced my experience, attitudes, knowledge and skills of the hospitality and tourism sector. The academic staff deliver a high standard of teaching as the majority of them are experienced in the tourism and hospitality industry and are leading international experts in the field. Because the units are designed to meet the present and future industry needs for professionals like me, my students and I will get immediate returns from my education and training at Bournemouth.

My BU education has shaped me significantly; both professionally and personally. I am now in a position where I can use the experiences and knowledge gained to develop and manage a business in the hospitality and tourism industry. BU is indeed a great and first rate University and I appreciate the opportunity I have been given to study here.”
