Multi-Media Journalism MA

Academic staff

Research produced by staff at Bournemouth's Media School has been given the highest possible rating in the latest national Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The recognition was awarded to research conducted in the field of Communication, Cultural and Media Studies. Overall, more than 50% of Bournemouth University research submitted was rated as having international significance.

One of those who contributed to the Media School submission is Phil MacGregor, the Programme Leader for the M.A. Multi-Media Journalism. He specialises in the field of convergence and online journalism and currently has an article titled Journalism, Public Imagination and Cultural Policy going into the International Journal of Cultural Policy. Phil has worked with MA students for recently published journal articles such as New Media, Old Values, published in Journalism Practice (October2008).

As an optional part of the M.A. Multi-Media Journalism, students carried out the interviews with British online journalists that formed the research database.

“Research links students directly to the leading edge of change and helps their employability.” That opinion was given to current M.A. students by Mike Watson, Systems editor of the Press Association in London. In a trip to top London media institutions at Christmas, MAMMJ students were told by Mr Watson: “You couldn't be doing a better thing at the moment. Certain other courses haven't realised that” (2008, December). Students also had an indepth look at CNBC Europe, talking to a former student from the course, Anna Martin, who is now a TV presenter at the station.
