BBC joins BU to launch Production Masters

BU’s renowned Media School and the BBC Academy have jointly launched a new Masters programme aimed specifically at providing the first industry-recognised qualification for those involved in production management.

Bournemouth and Cornwall Skillset Media Academies offer education first ...

Media professionals from the South West of England will for the first time be able to earn an MA by combining a flexible selection of professional development courses under the revolutionary Build Your Own MA programme being offered at the Bournemouth and Cornwall Skillset Media Academies.

Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Creative Media Industries, developed Build Your Own MA in response to a call from industry to better align postgraduate education with its own strategic development needs. It will offer more than 100 industry-approved professional development courses that can be done on their own or joined together to earn a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert)/Diploma (PGDip) or Masters of Arts (MA).

The credit-bearing professional development courses will be delivered through Skillset’s network of 17 English Media Academies. Those taking part can complete their own selection of courses in any combination, and from any mixture of Academies, while accruing credits towards their postgraduate qualification. It is the fist time an educational model of this type has been offered in the UK.

The BBC and The Guardian are the first organisations to join the programme. The BBC has tailored a series of credit-bearing short courses for people working in production management within the corporation.

Skillset’s chief executive, Dinah Caine, said: “This exciting new qualification represents a true revolution in postgraduate education that marries the best of continuing professional development with the lasting recognition of a postgraduate qualification.”
