Paola's interest in all things nautical began at an early age in her native Italy and was inspired further by her undergraduate degree in the floating city – Venice. With 25 years experience in archaeology Paola's specific focus is monitoring the degradation and preservation of underwater cultural heritage. Paola is a committee member and treasurer of the Maritime Affairs Group of the Institute for Archaeologists, a Member of the Institute for Archaeologists and a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London. Paola's research agenda is focussed on a niche area which combines archaeology, biology and environmental sciences – by investigating the physical, chemical, biological and environmental factors that contribute to or are responsible of the degradation or preservation of archaeological sites underwater.
