Foundations of Clinical Psychology MSc

Taught Units

Roots and Range of Psychological Disorders (40)

The unit introduces the major origins of mainstream psychological disorders in order to provide a context for the teaching of the subject in the remainder of the course. It enables you to acquire an in-depth understanding of the range of clinical psychological disorders.

Psychological Therapy (20)

You will gain an advanced knowledge of the main psychological therapeutic approaches used in clinical psychological therapies. As well as an in-depth understanding of the appropriateness of application of psychological therapeutic approaches.

Jurisprudence & Organisations (20)

You will develop an advanced understanding of the role of clinical psychologists in the legal system.

Advanced Research Methods & Statistics (40)

You will acquire an advanced understanding of many of the research methods and statistical techniques used in clinical psychology and gain the skills to search for, and to critically evaluate relevant information and present this information verbally in a concise and effective manner

Masters Level Units

Placement Experience & Dissertation (60)

You will gain an advanced understanding of the role of the Field Supervisor and an understanding of the placement setting. You will also be able to search for, and to critically evaluate relevant information, concerning the role of the Field Supervisor and be able to present information in a concise and effective manner.

Entry requirements:
Normally a 2:1 classification in an undergraduate psychology degree. Those with less standard/traditional qualifications and relevant experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.Applicants should ideally have clinically relevant experience, preferably with a range of clinical disorders.
