Course overview

students working as a team

An optional 40-week industry work placement is available on this course.

Good project managers are indispensable to all organisations competing in today’s international businesses. Ensuring the success of a project puts pressure on any project management team. Empowering yourself with business skills and industry knowledge will ensure you can become a successful, dynamic leader.

Engineering project management is a dynamic profession and you’ll need to be up to date with new developments in the philosophies, methods and tools for planning and executing projects. These developments are particularly important to industries engaged in developing new products, systems or capabilities.

The MSc Engineering Project Management is designed to give you the understanding and knowledge to employ management and technical tools, and the skills and confidence to spearhead and manage the development of new products and projects within the technological industries. You will learn to identify business issues and develop systematic, original and creative intellectual skills to formulate solutions. The research you undertake as part of your individual project will give you an opportunity to explore your particular area of interest in greater depth.

The course combines theory with a true understanding of contemporary, international business issues and specialist industry techniques. Throughout this course units are taught intensively, usually over 4.5 days, with assessment normally taking place 5-6 weeks after the delivery of the unit.

The School of Design, Engineering and Computing is active in research in Sustainable Design and Design Simulation. All members of the teaching team accordingly are active in research and publication within these fields or in associated applied research for business.
