Fieldwork

Spawning habitat

Field-based learning features throughout the course, making the most of the BU’s prime location for learning about biodiversity conservation. The Field Ecology Skills unit comprises intensive fieldwork in local terrestrial, marine and freshwater environments.

Sites visited throughout the course include the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, the New Forest National Park, Brownsea Island and Poole Harbour Special Protection Areas, Hengistbury Head Local Nature Reserve, the Dorset Heathlands National Nature Reserves and the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

You will learn about a diverse range of practical skills in these habitats, and the scientific methods required to provide the evidence-base for effective biodiversity conservation.
